    About Us

    WHAT WE DO

Aspen Adult Services, Inc. is a social service organization operating out of Helena, MT that provides state contracted services to Montanans with disabilities. We offer supported employment services that provide job search assistance,   job placement and on the job supports to people looking to work in the community. The Grove is a day program on site that offers Day Program Services and activities to keep individuals engaged in life and in learning when they aren't as able to work in the community.

Aspen Adult Services also offers Independent Living Services to Montanans with Disabilities. These services help individuals remain in their own homes by providing laundry help, house keeping, cooking, passing medications, etc. and teaching our clients to live their most independent lives.

Please reach out to us with any questions!

    OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Aspen Adult Services creates the best lives for our clients and the people who serve them. Community excellence and integration is our goal. Our business began with the idea that a company only gives excellent service when they have a great workplace. Our mission is to offer proactive and effective services to Montanans with disabilities. Our professional and supportive staff have generous pay, benefits, and experience. This experience combines into comprehensive training with compassionate care. Your success is our mission!

    OUR CORE VALUES

    Inclusion:

We believe that people with disabilities should have a seat at the table, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because we want them there.

    Community:

We believe that a strong, inclusive community is the foundation for meaningful lives. We are committed to building connections between the people we serve and the greater Helena community because every person deserves the opportunity to find their place, contribute their gifts, and feel valued.

    Respect:

We honor the dignity, individuality, and worth of every person. Respect is at the heart of every interaction—with those we serve, our colleagues, our partners, and our community. We strive to ensure that every voice is heard, and every person is treated with kindness and fairness.

    Empower:

We empower individuals to recognize and achieve their fullest potential. By providing the right tools, guidance, and opportunities, we help adults with disabilities build confidence, independence, and a meaningful sense of purpose. Empowerment means believing in possibilities and working together to make them real.

    Support:

We are a steadfast source of support, walking alongside each individual on their journey toward employment and community integration. Whether offering encouragement, resources, or advocacy, we are committed to creating a strong, safe foundation that individuals can trust as they pursue their goals and dreams.

    Challenge the Status Quo:

We are committed to questioning assumptions and dismantling barriers that limit opportunities for adults with disabilities. Progress requires courage, creativity, and the willingness to imagine a better way. We embrace innovation and advocate for systemic change to create a more equitable and inclusive society.

Do the Right Thing, Even if It’s the Hard Thing:

Integrity guides everything we do. We make decisions rooted in honesty, fairness, and the best interests of those we serve—even when it is difficult. Upholding our values sometimes means taking the harder path, but we believe that true impact is built through courage, responsibility, and doing what is right.

    OUR ROOTS

I started Aspen Adult Services to say YES more. I started Aspen because I had a vision of what social work was supposed to look like; that it was supposed to be run hands-on, by people who knew and loved the work and that the closer the cornerstone is to the bottom of the pyramid, the stronger the structure. My vision was to provide the best lives for our disabled neighbors AND the people who serve them! I wanted to strive for excellence for EVERYONE in our community.

I had lofty goals for my last endeavor but that dream never materialized and it took a large toll on my mental and physical health. I left as a 250-pound person who did not know how to love himself or other people the way we all deserve. I found comfort in food and screens and I slowly started to lose my edge.

I had a conversation with my mom and she reminded me that sometimes, when we are at our lowest point, all that’s left is to help others. She reminded me of all my neighbors who truly needed some love and caring.

As I struggled through that low time in my life, I remembered the joy I got when I was able to be the light in someone’s day. I started looking at opportunities around Helena and someone mentioned that the Tri-County Wolves Special Olympics’ team needed coaches. I was able to get my paperwork in and start coaching within two weeks.

I immediately fell in love with the disabled community. The admin team for the Wolves let me come and fill in the gaps and just be myself for a while. I coached track and field, bocce ball, golf and swimming, and I found myself doing whatever I could to be around my new friends. As the Spring season drew to a close, I was made aware of the need for more support staff at Helena Industries. I went over and met my dear friend, Ona, and she made me write a little essay on why I would be a good fit. I don’t remember what I wrote in those pages, but she gave me a shot and the rest is history.

When I think about our mission I often think about one of the largest, single-living organisms on Earth. The Pando Quaking Aspen Grove in Utah is a clonal grove of Aspen trees that share a single genetic heritage. It’s one tree, a single organism with a thousand offshoots. That is why I named us Aspen Adult Services. We are all one. One effort and one vision of loving kindness and service.

We are so excited about the future of Aspen, as we continue to grow from a single tree into a grove of our own. I’m asking you to make the journey with us; a journey to make our community the best it can be, a place where we all can put down roots and feel like we’re at home. We look forward to growing with you!

Ona retired for a time, but decided to rejoin the workforce when she saw how much fun Charlie and Sandi were having breaking the status quo. An educator at heart, Ona has always strived to create the best lives for people with disabilities and she continues this tradition by keeping all of Aspen's little ducks in a row. An epic feat for sure!

The love and warmth of true love each time I see them is powerful to say the least. The hugs I constantly receive are highly addictive and warm to my soul. I could never be the true me without all of them.  My legacy to all of them will be how goofy I am. I love making each and everyone laugh. I do have an Elmo puppet that helps sometimes.
